How much you have to pay

The amount you pay depends on your age and whether you use the state social security system (GSS) or a private insurance policy.

State Healthcare (GSS / SGK)

If you have lived in Türkiye for more than 1 year with a residence permit, you can join the state social security system.

  • Monthly GSS Premium: ₺1,981.62

  • Yearly GSS Premium: ₺23,779.44

Benefit: This single payment covers the main applicant, their spouse, and all children under the age of 18 at no extra cost.

Private Health Insurance (1 Year)

If you are applying for a residence permit and are between the ages of 18 and 65, you must have a private insurance policy. These are the average high-end market rates for 2026:

Age Group Yearly Cost (Fixed Average)

Aged 18–25 ₺9,200

Aged 26–35 ₺13,400

Aged 36–45 ₺16,800

Aged 46–55 ₺24,500

Aged 56–65 ₺33,600

Cost for part of a year

  • 6 months or less (Visitor/e-Visa): You must have Travel Medical Insurance. The average cost is $65 (approx. ₺2,400) depending on your coverage limits and country of origin.

  • Student GSS Rate: International students who register with SGK within their first 3 months pay a reduced monthly rate of ₺660.54.

Cost for more than one year

If your residence permit is for 2 years, you must pay for 2 years of insurance upfront.

  • Private Insurance: You must pay for two separate yearly policies. Many providers increase the premium for the second year based on your age transition.

  • GSS: You will continue to pay the monthly premium of ₺1,981.62 for as long as you are enrolled.

If you do not have insurance

You cannot complete your residence permit application (e-İkamet) without valid insurance.

  • The system performs a real-time check with the insurance database.

  • If your insurance information is not verified or has expired, your application will be rejected immediately.

Dependants

  • Aged 18 or over: Must have their own individual insurance policy and pay the full amount based on their age group.

  • Under 18s: Are not required to have a separate private insurance policy if their parents have valid coverage through the state or a family private plan.
