Getting a decision on your application
You’ll get an email or a notification from the Turkish Embassy, Consulate, or visa application centre telling you that a decision has been made on your application.
It will tell you what you need to do next. If you have not received an email, check your spam or junk folder.
If your application is successful
Depending on how you applied, you will receive your visa in one of two ways:
an e-Visa: a digital document that you must download and print before you travel.
a sticker visa (vignette): a physical sticker placed in your passport by the Turkish Consulate or visa application centre.
Your e-Visa or sticker will show:
the type of visa you’ve been granted (for example, Tourist, Student, or Work)
the dates your visa is valid (start date and expiry date)
the duration of stay allowed (for example, "up to 90 days")
Your visa conditions
The conditions say what you can and cannot do while in Türkiye. For example:
The 90/180 Day Rule: Most visit visas allow you to stay for a maximum of 90 days within any 180-day period.
'No work': You cannot take paid or unpaid work if you are on a tourist or business visa.
Residence Permit Requirement: If you have a long-term visa (such as for study or work), you must apply for a Residence Permit (İkamet İzni) at the Provincial Directorate of Migration Management once you arrive in Türkiye.
Getting an e-Visa
An e-Visa is a digital record. You do not need to visit a consulate to obtain it.
You must carry a printed copy or a digital version on your device when you travel.
Turkish border authorities will verify your e-Visa on their system using your passport details.
If there’s an error in your e-Visa: If you notice an error (such as a typo in your name or passport number), your e-Visa will be invalid. In Türkiye, e-Visas cannot be edited after they are issued. You must apply and pay for a new e-Visa with the correct information.
Getting your sticker visa (vignette)
If you applied through a Consulate or visa application centre and they kept your passport, they’ll either:
send it to you via courier with the sticker inside (if you paid for this service)
ask you to collect your passport and sticker in person
If there’s an error in your sticker visa: If you notice an error in your sticker before you travel, you must contact the Turkish Embassy or Consulate that issued the visa immediately to have it corrected.
If your application is refused
You’ll get a formal notification (Refusal Form) explaining why your application was refused. Your passport will be returned to you if it was kept as part of your application.
What you can do next
If your application is refused, you usually have three options:
1. Submit a written objection (Remonstrance) You can write to the Turkish Embassy or Consulate that made the decision to ask them to reconsider.
2. File a legal appeal You have the right to challenge the decision in the Turkish Administrative Courts (İdare Mahkemesi).
You must do this within 60 days of receiving your refusal notification.
This process involves legal proceedings in Türkiye and may take several months.
3. Make a new application. You can apply again at any time. There is no mandatory waiting period, but you must ensure that your new application addresses the reasons why your previous one was refused. You will have to pay the visa fee again.
Your refusal notification will provide specific details on how and where to lodge an appeal.
