What you can and cannot do with an e-Visa

Whether you need to apply for an e-Visa depends on why you’re travelling to Türkiye.

An e-Visa does not guarantee entry to Türkiye. If you have a criminal record, have previously overstayed a visa, or were previously refused entry into Türkiye, you may want to apply for a sticker visa at a Turkish Embassy or Consulate instead.

What you can do with an e-Visa

You can:

  • come to Türkiye for up to 90 days within a 180-day period for tourism or visiting family and friends

  • come to Türkiye for a business trip (such as attending meetings, conferences, or trade fairs)

  • come to Türkiye for official purposes or sporting activities

  • transit through a Turkish airport if you will pass through border control — check with your airline if you are not sure

If you’re coming to Türkiye for another reason (such as long-term study or research), check if you need a specific visa instead.

What you cannot do with an e-Visa

You cannot:

  • stay in Türkiye for longer than 90 days in any 180-day period

  • work or get a job (paid or unpaid) for a Turkish company or as a self-employed person — you must apply for a Work Permit

  • study at a Turkish university or school as a full-time student — you must apply for a Student Visa

  • claim public funds (social security benefits or state assistance)

  • live in Türkiye through frequent or successive visits — you must apply for a Short-term Residence Permit if you wish to stay longer

  • marry or register a civil partnership in Türkiye — while you can start the process, you may need a specific document or visa status depending on your nationality (check with the local Marriage Office / Evlendirme Dairesi)
